ALLIANCE CITY SCHOOLS WINS OLAC OUTSTANDING DISTRICT AWARD

consistent district-wide use of processes and data ensure informed decision making when setting plans and strategies for student success

 COLUMBUS, Ohio – December 11, 2019 Each year, the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) recognizes one district in Ohio that has gone above and beyond to embrace the OLAC tools and resources and emphasizes shared leadership in their district. This year, the Outstanding District Award was presented at the 2019 OLAC Action Forum to Alliance City Schools.

The award, presented annually to a district in Ohio that demonstrates effective leadership practices. These practices, inherent in the Ohio Improvement Process, include shared leadership, the use of a collaborative-inquiry process that uses data in decision making, and a focus on success for all learners within the school system.

Alliance was selected on three primary criteria and areas of success:

  • Demonstrating implementation of the practices in the Ohio Leadership Framework
  • Promoting the use of OLAC Tools, Resources, and Modules for District and Individual Professional Development, and;
  • Participating and supporting Regional/State OLAC Professional Development Opportunities.

Alliance City Schools has grounded its strategic planning process in the Ohio Leadership Framework. Through community engagement, student and adult implementation data, strategic resource alignment, and integration of grants, the 4-year plan has focused goals and action steps for the district to implement and effectively monitor.

“We were impressed with how the district has shared these successes and best practices and how they’ve promoted OLAC resources,” shared Karel Oxley, Co-Executive Director, OLAC.

The district has found the following OLAC resource topics especially helpful: the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP), gifted training, coaching training, and the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) evaluation crosswalk. In addition to regularly attending, Alliance City Schools has also presented at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 OLAC Action Forums, resulting in positive feedback from attendees.

"We are honored to accept this award on behalf of our dedicated staff who use OIP to benefit the hard-working students are Alliance City Schools. Using the OIP as the center of the district improvement strategy has allowed the district to build a culture that values shared leadership, collaboration, support, and continuous growth," said Jeff Talbert, Alliance superintendent.

Alliance was nominated by State Support Team (SST) 9 and Sherry Faulk, a consultant for SST 9, which is a part of the Ohio Department of Education’ statewide system of support to Ohio’s schools.

“Alliance City Schools truly exemplifies what it means to implement the OIP and find success using the OLAC resources. Congratulations to Alliance City Schools our 2019 Outstanding District Award Winner!” said Jim Gay, Co-Executive Director, OLAC.
