Alliance Early Learning School

The students in Rebecca Clark's and Bobbie Woods' preschool classes spend Fridays doing science experiments.  Last Friday, the science experiment was called "Magic Milk Science." Students added milk and food coloring to a dish. Using a Q-tip dipped in dish soap, students added the soap to the milk mixture and watched the chemical reaction happen before their eyes.

March “book” Madness

\r\n

First grade students recently kicked off a special March Book Madness. March Book Madness, in the spirit of college basketball’s popular tournament known as “March Madness,” is a literary competition hosted by the first grade teachers where students pit title against title from the most famous children's authors and decide which will advance to the next round. In the end, only one will be left standing as the "2020 Book of the Year." Teachers worked to create a bracket of 16 famous picture books. Students will be voting in each round. Voting will also include opinion writing and writing about the story elements. This is a great opportunity for students to enjoy great literature.

Incentive

\r\n

80% of the students earned the February PBIS incentive and were treated to popcorn and a short movie at school. We are so proud of our students’ behavior. They make good choices, stay above the line and follow the Golden Rule. Way to go, AES Aviators.

Congratulations to the following classes who won the February cafeteria contest for great behavior; Addie Bender’s class, Alissa Batdorff’s class, Vicki McGeehen’s class, Kelly Barthel’s class, Suzanne Hartline’s class and Chelsea Minnich’s class. Way to go.

7th Grade

\r\n

ELA: Next week students will begin writing the research paper that will accompany their Medieval Faire project. They have selected a topic from the middle ages and will be conducting internet research and collecting facts on index cards. Please purchase index cards for your child if possible. Teachers will be able to supply some index cards, but we do not have enough to fully supply all students.

\r\n

Social Studies: Next week, students will be learning of the contributions of the Muslims to the modern world. Students will cover architecture, scholarship, science and technology, geography, mathematics, medicine, literature, the arts and recreation. Students chose their topics for the Medieval Faire last week.  This week, students will begin researching and writing their papers in reading class. Please don't leave this until the last minute. Ask your student what his or her needs are so we can make sure students are getting what they need. Countdown is three weeks.

8th Grade

Rising Scholar applications are available from 8th Grade Academy Principal Matt Bobola and are due soon. If your student is eligible for the program (they were invited to the meeting), please talk to them about applying. Four students will be selected to complete the program and attend Kent Stark for four years at no cost.

\r\n

Keith McGeehen will be taking a selected group of students to Mount Union for the Innovation Invitational. Students were selected based on their results from a Junior Achievement survey.
